Animal Cruelty Arrest
Case Number: 202310002049
Release Date: September 20, 2023
On September 20, 2023, Seminole County Animal Services requested the Altamonte Springs Police Department’s assistance with an animal well-being check at 818 Ballard Street. When meeting with the resident, Tonya Grose, officers could smell the pungent odor of urine and feces coming from inside the residence. Once inside, they observed multiple emaciated dogs in cages without food or water, and birds in cages filled with feces and cockroaches. Several cats were also present, and the floor was covered with excrement, urine, and roaches. A Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officer responded to check the well-being of the birds.
Officers found two sheds in the backyard and more malnourished dogs in cages. Officers also found several dogs locked in one of the sheds. It was hot, and there was no ventilation. There was a powerful odor coming from inside the second shed, and there was a dog’s skeleton on the ground. Officers located over 15 large trash bags inside that shed containing animal remains in various stages of decomposition.
Tonya Grose was taken into custody and charged with Cruelty to Animals. Additional charges are pending the results of the investigation. Over two dozen animals were recovered from the property are in the care of Seminole County Animal Services for Veterinary evaluation.
Our partners at Seminole County Animal Services would like to remind the community that with the large number of animals being surrendered, they are now over capacity and asking for help from the public to come in and adopt one of the animals already in the Shelter’s care.
Please call Seminole County Animal Services at 407-665-5201 if you would like to adopt a pet.
